I have a 318se auto touring. after driving the car and parking up if I go to to start it after a short period of time the car will sometimes turn over but not start and i have a warning light that looks like a gear wheel with an exclamation mark in the centre of it. If I leave the vehicle overnight it will start straight away any suggestions would be much appreciated thanks.

You need to get the fault codes read for the engine and transmission, the cog light is a gearbox fault code. When you get the codes read post them up here and we can help you better,

Apparently the crank sensor is faulty and this is putting the transmission into limp mode hence the transmission fault light
