Hi there, for a while now my cars been every so often going into a kind of limp mode while driving.
the little yellow engine light is on all the time but the car drives fine untill the EML light pops up then it just seems to be ticking over no matter where i am and wht speed im driving.
if i turn the engine of for a few seconds and restart, the EML light goes out (the littlle yellow engine light stays on) and all is fine again.
the happens somtimes a couple of times a day, somtimes not for days on end.
also the past couple of days ive noticed that the revs are kind of jumping a little from time to time bouncing on the rev couter from 0-2000 ish?
a mate plugged it into his fault machine thingy and these codes came up:-

    285E - Variable valve gear-control-
2865 - Variable valve gear- power-
    27B8 - Differential- pressure sensor,
285A - Variable valve gear- monitoring.

to be honest i havent really got a clue what these mean and what the cause of these codes are .
im guessing they are all connected in some way to my problem.
any ideas what the codes mean and how to fix???
    kind regards
    glen

285E = ECU(Electronic Control Unit) internal fault, Variable valve gear. Looks to be a DME(ECU) fault, this is the important one to get sorted first.

2865 = Variable valve gear, power limitation in limp home operating mode.

27B8 = Differential pressure sensor, intake manifold, not plausible. To do with #16 here http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...94&hg=11&fg=40

285A = Variable valve gear, monitoring servomotor. To do with #9 here http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...96&hg=11&fg=15 or #7 here http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...09&hg=11&fg=25

You really need to get that ECU fault code sorted before anything. The other codes may well be due to the ECU fault.
