My multifunction steering wheel doesnt work anymore
    My horn doesnt work either
And the lights on the steerign wheel dont light up (when you put the headlights on they usually come on)

I assumed a damaged/frayed wire or loose connection, as it seems to have cut the power going to the steering wheel (due to no lights?)
    I checked fuses 5 & 55.

The only thing I did before it stopped was I had the car jacked up and was doing full locks left to right about 30 times as I was checking my steering from underneath the car.

    Any ideas?

are you using the o/i button to turn it on then setting the speed with the button above showing the dial? if you understand that?

because my 330d didnt work on the o/i button but if i held down the button with the dial it would turn itself on, and then the + and - buttons would work as well.

never got to the bottom of the problem as it didn't bother me but it still worked !

(usually in my compact i turn it on with the o/i button so that the light appears on the dash, then set the speed)

    I followed some guides:

    http://kinmak.com/?page_id=88

    http://www.rogueengineering.com/Merc...y_Code=Z4WHEEL

    http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=628898

    http://www.bimmerforums.co.uk/forum/...button-t36778/

And got round to taking the airbag out of place, so I could check the wiring behind, incase it had snapped or something, and it looks perfectly fine.

Does anybody know what else controls the steering wheel buttons, and infact gives power to it (seeing as the wheel doesnt even light up anymore and my horn doesnt work) ?

Right after mastering the many guides I found above, and much researching, I found that the squib, slipring could need replacing. Ordered one for about £10 and fitted it using the guides and bobs your uncle, horn working again, lights back on the MF buttons and the cruise control working again.

Dont know exactly what is wrong with my old one, or why it would get damaged from doing too many turns? (must of been when I did loads of full locks to test my steering).
Im also not sure why it would stop the power (it seems) getting through to the Multifunction options and the horn, but for £10 theres no point racking your brains..

Mods can you mark this as fixed, maybe it will help somebody else.
    Thanks to all that helped
