Hi, I'm new to the forum! and need help. I have a BMW compact 316ti se 2002 1.8 lt . Car runs up to temp and needle stays in the middle. However the fan is not cutting in, Tested for fault code and got 279D. which from my understanding is electric fan output stage. whilst testing to find fault code the guy did a coolaint fan test from the diagnostic tool and fan came on. any suggestions ??

    Thanks

Could be a relay for the fan.

Sent from my Sega Megadrive using electricity.

    Sorry was thinking E36!

It could well be the switch here, number 9, Water hoses BMW 3' E46, 316ti (N42)

Check for power at the plug, if you have power then bridge the plug and see if the fan operates.
