Recently I have had to jump start my car becuase of a dead battery. Before the battery is about to die I have noticed the indicators permantely flashing. Also when I arm the alarm, I sometimes get a flash from the indicators, sometimes I don't. Is there a problem with the alarm?
Any help would be greatly appreciated before I have to pay an arm and a leg to get it troubleshot by BMW.

Oh and does anyone know where to get the diagnostic lead to connect a laptop to the car...I have the software but no way of using it.

    Cheers.

If the battery is knackered, you can get wierd symptoms. You have to start with a known good battery.
If you have a multimeter, check the voltage across the battery with the car switched off. It should be around 12.6v.
Then check the voltage with the car running at idle, should be around 14v, and with the headlights on and running at about 2000 revs it shouldn't drop by much.
That will determine if your alternator is ok.
Then, if you can get a hold of a decent battery you could try it first to see if the symptoms are gone.

    Thanks for the reply.

I've put a fluke across it and got 14.6v with the engine running, this morning of course it read 0v when dead, I'm glad it appears the battery is being charged.

    0 volts?

There should be some power in there if using a multimeter

0 volts is battery disconnected . Even if the battery was extremely flat it would show at least 3 volts +
