Whenever I leave the car for a week or more I have a flat battery. The battery has been replaced 3 times now and the alternator has been checked. Garage has tested for drain twice and found nothing. Auto electronics specialist has found nothing.
To cap it all I am now experiencing intermittent power loss - engine just dies at low revs and the key fob is also playing up.
Where do I go from here?
i would get the alt checked again just incase, make sure the bat is connected propperly and theres no leaks or residue. is your stereo or any other electrical equiptment standard? or connected incorrectly or is anything left on?
Go to a different garage! Not being trite, but even my very limited knowledge of electricity is sufficient to konw it doesn't evaporate. Cars like yours do continue to use a little current when idle, but you simply must have a drain somewhere if you've gone through 3 batteries. The car is very susceptble to low voltage and the behaviour you're getting is very symptomatic of that.
Put a meter across the battery with the car powered down and see the loss (it must be there) then pull each fuse one at a time until the loss stops? Or, go to a different auto electrician?
The FSU(Final Stage resistor Unit) are known to keep the heater fan blowing ever so slightly, which runs the battery down. :thumbsup Same as on the e46's.
What auto sparky and garage did you use if you don't mind me asking?
There's a great auto electrician(Pete) down Cox Avenue, which is off Castle Lane, Bournemouth, he's probably one of the best in Dorset, he'll be able to find the problem. :thumbsup
His workshop is just behind the Autocentre on the corner of Cox Avenue and Castle Lane.
