Newbie here! 2001 E46 330Ci. Heater blowers do not work at all. They did however start to work again for a week, but have now since stopped again. Is the problem likely to be the resistor? Or with the motor? Don't want to buy the resistor to find it is a problem with the motor itself.

    Thanks

You know, there is also a blower relay behind the glove box.

No, didn't know that. I did have a mechanic look at it, but he didn't really have any idea of where to look for the fault. Is it easy to get in behind the glovebox to have a look?

    Thanks

Hi,There is not a relay fitted for the blower system on your E46.There are 5 wires going to the hedgehog;power supply, ground, signal from the IHKA(climate control unit) unit and 2 wires going to the blower unit.Check with a multi meter, which wires have power to them when the IHKA unit is on low speed. One wire will have 12 volts, the other will have approx 3v.The ground wire,I think is a brown, the signal wire(which will have the 3v)is a quite thin wire compared to the others. On full speed,I think the voltage on the signal wire should be approx 10v,but either way you should be able to see a rising voltage on that line.
    Hope this helps.....

Ummm...I beg to differ Robbo. There are 2 AC blower relays located behind the glove box on my car and my friend who owns a e46 330 has already changed one on his 2001 model. Maybe UK and US spec cars are different possibly?

Only relay back there mate should be for AC control, not for the blowers.I have checked out quite a few when I was working in the UK,when the original hedgehogs started to go bad.Cant think what the other relay is that is fitted.I will double check the diagrams again....
