Day off work today & had a friend around who had all the technical info for the engine, loom diagrams, location photos etc etc. Traced the fault all the way to the loom which heads to the turbo actuator. This had melted against the EGR system. Repaired the loom, put everything back together and IT'S ALIVE!!
Fuel pump is not on the affected fuse, although the control relay for it is. Ironically the reversing light relay of also on this fuse. Otherwise, all other sensors / relays listed on the 1st post are on this fuse for their supply, with the loom going all around the engine.
Thanks for all the help, advice and pointers here, and a special thanks to Scott (smorriss_12 on 'BMW Land') and Ed (Eazy_E here) for popping down and helping, and saving me from too many bacon rolls, jaffa cakes and too much beer!! (comfort eater!)
