blowing fuse 30 will be a totally duff short circuit oil level sensor usually, ya have to remove the bottom front brace on the car to unplug it, renew the fuse and see if it starts...

itsa fail safe if it thinks there is no engine oil in the engine it blows fuse 30 to stop ya destroying the engine...

    charge the battery aswell...

Not "fuse 30", but 30A fuse under the bonnet in a row of 30A fuses. However, I will give this a go

Tried it, fuse popped. Tried unplugging everything I could see to unplug, fuse popped. Belled it all out with a multimeter, no shorts that I could tell, but without a schematic it's impossible to be 100% sure I've got the right results.

Starting to think this will end up in the hands of an auto electrician, which will undoubtedly cost me a fortune!

If its a 30A fuse it must be something that draws loads of current, something like fuel pressure pump, cooling fans, altenator etc.

Can you not follow the wire back from the fuse and see where it goes?

Have a look in the manual it may say what fuse it is.

Hope that helps and you get it sort.

Unfortunately, every sensor & relay with a listed fault on my 1st post is powered from this fuse - that much I've deduced. What I don't know is how much other stuff is also powered from it. Short of ripping the entire loom out of the engine, there's no other way to trace it, with the exception of the engine schematics.

Only manual I have is a downloaded for the USA market, original not supplied with the car. Makes no mention of the under bonnet fuses.

Cheers for your help so far As for the earth strap, likewise don't know where it would be hidden - as you know that 330d is a bit tight in the engine bay! However, sensor wise these are not grounded to the block but run direct to the connections by the fuses & relays. Not found a short in the loom yet, which is why I'm starting to think it's something energising which has failed s/c.

Hopefully I'll get there and save a huge garage cost!
