    Hi all

I have a 330ci sport with xenon headlights. when i 1st switch the lights on they strike very brightly for a split second, then dim and then slowly get brighter. i take it this is a standard procedure for xenon lights?

the problem i have is when im driving with the lights on every so often they will randomly strike very brightly as if i ve just switched the lights on, but they have been on for a while, its annoying because they must instantly blind people coming from the other direction and then they flash me.

does this fault mean that the sriker units are on their way out? it looks as though it could be both lights doing it at the same time. if so can i change just the striker units or will i need to replace the whole headlight? could it be something else? has anyone else had this problem with their xenons?

any help would be very much appreciated

    thank you in advance.

you are right in thinking that is how hid bulbs work on start up.
as for the problem of restriking...weird one, maybe it happens as you crest a rise?,or after you hit a bump?...might be the auto levelling playing catch up.
    what i've felt,what i've known
never shined through in what i've shown.

Does anything else electrical change when the lights flicker brighter? Like the heater get quicker for a few seconds or any interior lights flicker brighter? Had that on a previous car and that was the alternator.

    thanks for the replies.

no its the lights only that seem to be effected everything else is as normal.

328mark: yeah you could be right, its the flash seems identical to the stricker flash, its that bright.

i guess i will have to take it to a main stealer & see if they can diagnose anything

i know its an old thread, but i have this problem too. Except sometimes it also turns off.
the problem is affecting both sides independently, & it is exassabated by bumps/potholes, although they have never cut out whilst I'm stationary.
    1999 320d factory xenon.
i'm wondering if it is possible to replace with an aftermarket Digital HID KIT etc ?
    cant deal with stealership prices.

any help or ideas would be appreciated.
