I have a strange fault on my E46 2002 330ci with the central locking.

The issue is that the passenger side lock does not open when central unlocking is activated from the key fob and the in car unlock button near the gear stick. However central locking works fine.

The only change I've made on the car since the fault is installing a new ICE head unit through a professional installer and they have assured me that the installation is independent of the central locking electrical.

Can anyone advise me if there is any obvious settings I've missed or is the fault more complicated?

    Much appreciated!

    Could be a GM5 module issue. http://www.bmwgm5.co.uk/

There are quite a few threads on the issue running currently on here.

Thanks Ronnie, I've been doing further research online and found a technical doc about the central locking module, may be useful for others in a similar situation:

I suspect that the fault may be due to settings in the car that only opens the driver side and not the passenger side. Does anyone know if such a feature exists and if so how is it activated / deactivated? Thanks.

afaik its a key setting option, BMW or good Indy will have facility to reprogram the keys functions, have you tried pressing the open button twice sometimes the second press will open all doors?

Yep tried that already. No luck I'm afraid.

I wonder if I should try a reset via the method described here?

You can try that tho I dont think it will actually change the key function as it simply recodes the key to the GM5?

Do you have more than 1 key as the other may be programmed to unlock all the doors?

Thanks for the tips. The car only has this key with a fob. The other keys are a valet key and a backup key. Going to try unlocking via the key socket and see if that opens the central locks. Will see how it goes.

    Hi All,

Few more questions for the OP.

Does the passenger door open after the second push?
If yes, it is a coded feature.

Does the passenger door open if you pull on the interior handle?
If yes, the fault is with the passenger doro lock unit also known as a door lock actuator. If your drivers door unlocks with the key fob, then the GM5 is probably okay.

It does... so I guess that leads to a issue with the passenger door lock actuator. Do you have any experience in fixing or point me in the right direction?

    Thanks!

Well, I would not try fitting a door lock actuator from a breakers, as many coupe have a similar fault to yours. Save up and buy one from Cotswold BMW (site sponsor) or your local dealer. They are about £90.

See this link on how to fit it:
    http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=600213
It took me about 1.5hrs to fit.
