    Hi,

    Car: 330ci 2001 e46

A couple of weeks ago the battery charge light started to appear after I started the car...it disappeared as soon as I put my foot down. Been fairly intermittent up until today.

Driving to work and the light came on half way through the journey, whilst stopped at traffic lights. Stayed on for rest of journey. Also when I turned the car off a loud whirring continued for q few seconds afterwards, sounded like it originated from behind the dash.

The book points to the alternator, just thought is find out if anyone has had similar and what it turned out to be?

    Thanks!!

I would say more towards the 14V if alternator is charging, not 12V.

check the battery volts with the engine off and make a not of it, it will be arround 12v

then with the car running, and no light up check the battery voltage it should be more than when you checked with it off, this is because its charging

now next time the light comes on, check the battery volts again if its like when the engine is off its not charging properly, and i would suggest it maybe your alternator
