hi there, new too this but i'm wondering if any one can help.

i have a e46 318 Ci, only a week ago i got this random electical problem, it started out with indicators not working on the dash but did outside, then they would work, then stick on even when cancelled (kept on for ages) however working fine outside the car.

the full beam light staying on in the dash even after the lights were off.

clock not changing time on the cd player display (o.k on the on-board computer)

    central locking working randomly

and now the cd player works randomly also.

its puzzled me as there are to many faults to try and start to pin point it.

i've asked a few people and getting loads of different thigs to try- thought i see if this has happend to any other owners out there.

    HELP WOULD BE GREAT!!!

    Leebur

Hi leebur, with regards to the central locking issue...

Peel back the black sheathing that protects the wiring that runs between the boot lid and the vehicle. Due to constant flexing the wires break and touch other wires which causes all sorts of electrical problems within the electrical system

Once you have inspected this area please post up your findings so we can assist you further if need be

Not sure if the E46 suffers from this but other models suffer ignition switch problems and the symptoms are extremely random and weird, similar to yours.

Similar symptoms can also be caused by a bad alternator.

    Difficult to tell.

I've read several posts on the "net" which describes similar symptoms and they report of a possible K-bus shortage.

There are several ways of correcting this (according to the different posts), but the general phrase seems to be a K-bus reset. This can be perfored at a dealership or by yourself.

I've not performed this myself, but if you search for K-bus problem e46 on google you get several routines for performing this.

    Hope this helps.
