    hi everyone. first time poster.

i have an 2001 e46 316i se but recently its started to get an electrical problem.

-sometimes all the doors wont open from the key fob or using the key in the lock except the boot. that will open using the key

-sometimes the dials (time, mpg, mph, trip computer) will make a buzzing noise then reset to default 0's when key is turned

-sometimes while turning the key to start the car the whole car will stop working but then start on a second try.

i have an after market CD player installed in the car which i thought might be the cause but its only started to happen recently so not sure if this is the case.

sorry i cant explain it any better, I don't have much knowledge of cars and their electrics but any help would be much appreciated

    thanks

I think I know the answers.

    1. central locking, not unlocking.
This is the classical E46 central locking fault. For another member of this board, I found this original article started by slowtech:

    2. and 3. I reckon this is caused by the igntion switch is going faulty. It causes al sorts of problems when it starts to fail. It is part number 2 in ths diagram:

    quite easy to change.
