Hi guys, I bought a pair of white angel eye bulbs/LEDs from a guy on here, fitted them, and start the engine, all lights OFF, the angel rings flash left to right a few times, then pause OFF for about 5-6 secs, then flash left, pause few secs, then flash right, and so on. Turn the sidelights On, or turn main beam ON, there is NO flashing, only when engine running, with lights all OFF.

Whats going on? Is it cause of the check control system detecting non standard bulbs? The car is a 2001 E39 530 Sport. Has OE rings, but regular halogen headlight and high beam bulbs, NOT HID's.

Sorry, i dont know what the problem is, but Ive just posted a question about which bulbs are best, and if i buy some of the best ones suggested, and they work, I'll let you know. You can then buy the same ones, and get you money back on the other dodgey ones

This is caused by cold checking of the filiment by the check control system. With incandescent bulbs, this is so fast, he bulb doesn't light up. LED sources respond immediately by flashing.

    Fixes.
    1. fit large capacitors across the LED bulbs to shunt the cold test current. (not tried this but rumoured to work)
    2. Get the coding changed on the LCM module to disable checking. Using NCS Expert or Autologic.

I can do the coding if you are interested. (mail me if interested).

I'd just buy some better LED units - i got mine off ebay and they work perfect in my E39 no flickering etc.

You can also get them from SSDD motorsport for £35 IIRC

Colin, do you mean by cross as in put the positive lead of the cap to the positive, and neg lead to the neg lead? NOT in series yeah? On a cap, is the ARROW on the side the neg or pos?
