    Hi, i have a 2001 525i auto.
The other day while driving along the ABS light and engine management lights came on. The speedo stopped working and the autobox started acting strangely - ie not changing gears, feels like its trying to pull away in 3rd.

After a lot of reading i gathered it was probably an abs wheel speed sensor. As i was not sure which sensor had gone (although it seems its usualy the left rear) i got the codes read at J&D Vehicle repairs (high wycombe) but no codes came up for ABS system.
Two codes that came up where - (130) 82 Signal, CAN ASC1 and (217) D9 Signal, CAN EGS.

He cleared the codes and i went for a drive until it happened again, same codes returned.

Theyre not too sure what the problem is.

I tried looking up the fault codes and found one chart on here, table 15 which related 82 - Can timeout (ASC1) and D9 Can timeout (EGS1).

Anyone have any pointers? I was expecting to just have to change the rear wheel abs speed sensor but now, who knows? Should i just change the sensor anyway as thats what the problem normally seems to be, despite no fault code coming up for the sensor?

Im sure if i take it to bmw i will get properly bent over :(
    Many thanks for any help.

you may have to be bent over and get zimmer to have a propper look instead of presuming it mite be the sensor
