Hiya all, I have a 2001 E39 525d with Xenon headlights (HID) installed as standard. Last month the drivers headlight started getting a lot darker colour than the passenger one, after reading up on them it seemed that it was nearing the end of its life and sure enough it dies a week later. After pricing a bulb up from the main stealer (£135 plus VAT) I sourced a pair on the net for £15. The bulbs arrived and although they were not a mainstream make they were still DS2 and looked fine to me. I installed them and on checking they seemed fine untill the passenger bulb failed an hour after fitting. Now, here's the thing..... When the car is cold and I turn them on they flicker as if struggling to ignite, turn them on/off several times and they may ignite when the car is warmed up. If they fail to ignite I have to pull the connector off the top of the ballast pack behind the headlight, plug it beck in and they ignite. It seems to be the passenger bulb thats failing more than the drivers side. I thought maybe it was a lack of juice in the battery as I know its a little tired so I got a new battery (100ah/900ca) but its not that, I've tried swapping the ballast packs round to see if the drivers side becomes the main problem but its still the passenger side. I have also got ANOTHER two bulbs and installed them but its STILL the passenger side that seems to be failing. I'm at the end of my tether with this, the car is my taxi and as I work mainly at night this is becoming a nightmare. Can anyone help???
