I have recently had the "engine" warning light come on and stay on permanently. The manual states it is "deterioration in exhaust emission values. Please arrange for the problem to be examined by BMW service".

Is there a non-BMW visit fix for this problem? Does it mean that the catalytic converter has failed? Any advice would be much appreciated.

    Thank you.

could be any number of engine sensors or a split vacuum/induction/breather pipes. Any indy BMW garage can read them for you.

Thanks for the input Ronnie, is this something that needs immediate attention or can I get if fixed when the car is due for its next service?
