    Evening!

    got a 323ci w reg.

If i hold down the unlock button on my key fob all my windows and sunroof open no problems.

If i want to lock the car and close all the windows in a one-er i hold down the lock button on my key fob as normal and all the windows close except both rear windows and on some occasions the sun roof starts to close but gets almost closed and then re opens all the way

this isn't really a major problem as these days i usually close all the windows from inside the car using the buttons but some times i want to show off in the car park and shut my windows all at once as it looks smart (your all bmw owners and know that ownership feeling haha!)

anyways could this be something as simple as a fuse or what? anyone seen this before?

    any suggestions are much appreciated.

    thanks Stan.

They close on the E36 from the alarm, so I suspect they should also close on the alarm on the E46 !

Have you tried the window reset procedure ? It's something like, wind the windows down and hold the button down for 10 seconds, then put them up and hold the button down for 10 seconds.... I can't remember the exact procedure, plus, it could be different on the E46 ! But give it a bash.

Same sort of thing for the sunroof too.

The rear windows don't close using the fob, only the front windows. All of the windows open using the fob though. The reason why BMW programmed the car not to allow the rear windows to close using the fob is due to 'anti-trap safety'. I have also confirmed this with BMW themselves as I had the same query as you. I have now deactivated the rear windows opening using the fob also. Naturally, if you would open the rear windows using the fob, you would close it using the fob and naturally assume the rear windows have closed also. This would lead to you forgetting they're still open and walking off. If I want the rear windows opening, I just open them manually using the console button.

You learn something new everyday - I knew they closed on the E36.... But obviously, they changed the design (for the worse ?) on the E46 !

Yep...definately for the worst. They have the soft open rear windows feature, where you touch the button once and it opens fully. But when you go to close it, you gotto keep your hand on the button. Is that how it is with yours?

BMW even decided to stop programming E46's to chirp when locking/unlocking. They say this decision was made due to 'noise pollution'. I had a new ZKE module fitted by them and all my key memory options reset. They got everything back to how it was apart from this chirp, which I was annoyed about. I had to go to a BMW specialist who used the older diagnostic system to load the chirp feature back onto the car. Lukily he didn't charge me!

On the E36, the rear windows are a one-touch down.... But to close them, you have to hold the button down on the center console.

But, if you leave them open, lock the car, then the rear windows start closing, then after a few seconds the front windows start closing... Once all 4 are closed, the sun roof starts closing

Are BMW not able to modify the software on the ZKE to be able to close the rear windows on the E46 ? It's only a software thing they've changed, so they must be able to change it back.

But, the E46 has the slight advantage, because on the E36, you can't open the windows from the alarm.... You gotta turn the ignition on to open them :(

It's a safety feature so small ones don't get there pinkies chopped off,

Or no thumbsup if it was in the window.
