Hi, Ive just bought a 320d e46 a few weeks ago and have notice that the following warning lights never light up, ABS, Traction control, Airbag and the brake pad. Some or all of these should light up turning the ignition on, but they all should light up during the clock test (holding the trip reset button to go into test mode, function 2.1)

The traction control doesn't work (it drifts) I've pressed the ASC button several times ranging from 1-20 seconds and the light never illuminate or flicker.

ABS sort of works, it shudders on jamming on the brakes but one wheel locks up so I presume 1 of the abs sensors at the wheel is faulty.

I presume these lights are LEDs so they cant be blown so did or could the garage i bought the car from, disable these functions with a computer??? or is there any other way he could have stopped these lights from coming on??

Checked every fuse and there all ok, none missing.
I do all the work on cars myself so I really dont want to bring it into a BMW garage, might buy some sort of OBDII test equipment if it'll help me.

Only worried about getting the lights working for now, will sort out why there lit after (if there lit)

Any help would be greatly appreciated

sounds very dodgy mate, i dont think you can disable th elight sbut you can remove the bulbs. I'd certainly start with getting the codes read on a diagnostics mate at least then you'll know what does and what doenst work

Think dodgy would be the right word for it all right. I believe that the warning lights are LEDs which would normally be soldered onto a circuit board so they cant be removed like bulbs. I could be wrong.
Its not exactly a 10 min job to take it apart to have a look

Think I may get an OBD, doing research on which one to get. Looking like the INPA leads to work with carsoft so i'd have more control

Do a binnacle test, Hold down the mileage reset button with the ignition off, turn the ignition key to position 1, Wait for TEST to appear and then release reset button, watch as the binnacle does a self test. Check if the lights appear. (guarantee they won't)

They are LED'S on your dash, the likelihood off them mysteriously all blowing is rather low! you need to get this looked into pronto as it initially sounds like you've been sold a ropey motor.

How much MOT is on the car?
