    hi my red battery light is on, but i have had the alternator and battery checked and they both tested ok, how can i get this light turned off?

    As far as I know, the battery light on the E46 is not directly driven by the alternator. The alternator signal goes to the DME (ECU) and the DME drives the light. So if there has been a fault previously the codes may need read/cleared.
    I would enquire with a Bmw Specialist garage in case I'm wrong.

    The battery warning can be brought on by a faulty oil level sensor, I think the oil level sensor shorts out internally and blows the fuse that supplies its power,this in turn has an effect on the engine management and the battery light stays on as a result. Will see if I can find a wiring diagram to determine which fuse would blow if this was the case.

    Ok, should your car have the problem Ive just mentioned then fuse 30 will be blown, if this is not the case then please disregard what I had previously suggested.
