    Hi

    BMW 3181
    Year - 2000/ w reg
    Manual Transmission

I was driving from Barnsley to Worthing (248 miles). Before I started the journey I had half tank of petrol so I filled the petrol tank to full. As like my other car I though it (fuel gauge) will take several minutes to change to Full.

Surprisingly even after driving 150 miles it was going towards end instead of showing true level. I was panicking. I pulled over twice, restarted the engine nothing happened. Third time when I pulled over again and restarted the engine (Hurray!) fuel gauge changed to more half a tank...

I don't know, whether it is normal or unusual. Please advise.

It may be one of the senders in the tank playing up, you have 2, 1 on each side of the tank, the sender on the passenger side does the 1/2 Full to Full reading IIRC.

It may be that it's just not been filled that much before , give it some time and it may clean up the contacts and fix itself

    Hi
Thank you very much for your kind reply.

I filled my tank on last Monday (01/09/2009) .. the fuel gauge changed today after a Week .. and then again this afternoon when I restarted the engine- the needle returned to its resting position and the low fuel warning light came on. I do have a petrol... is it expensive to fix.

    Please help!

    Kind Regards

    Hi Ronnie

Thank you very much for your kind reply.

I have checked the link but I am confused, do I need to buy all the parts??

    £223 sounds very expensive...
