    Hi!

My first post. I've just picked up an E46. Previously I had an E36 but I managed to Haynes manual everything else.

Got a few things I need to fix on it but I think I'm ok with those.

I have no idea how to deal with the interior boot light though. Am I right in thinking there's a microswitch in the locking mechanism to trigger the ground switch for lights?

Neither of the lights are working and the bulbs are brand new. Fuses are all ok.

    Thanks!!

Broken wires in the flexible part of the loom between the tailgate and the vehicle body are not uncommon. Try bending it around and see whether the light flickers, or failing that pull back the grommet and see if there's and broken/chaffed wires in there.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not entirely sure of the cause as I've tried that. I think I just need to spend more time figuring out the wiring but was wondering if theres a switch somewhere I can check as there isn't an obvious one!

You can latch the latch with a screw driver to give the effect of "pressing the switch"

If you remove the tailgate trim everything should be accessable. Do you have a volt meter?

I'll have to just play around with the trim in there.

I've got a multimeter. I'm actually IMIAL level 2 qualified in autoelectrics ... hopefully will be helping to answer more questions instead of asking them on here once I get more familiar with the car. I'll be checking the grounds and live feeds and the switch once i find it!
