Really weird. The EWS mk2 alarm came on while i was driving, then at the same time the car went into "limp mode". Basically it like a misfire (but isn't) It wont rev properly.

Any thoughts. Obviously i turned the alarm off, but the BMW 316 will not run properly now.

Siren would come on due to a voltage drop. Bad earth from the battery would also cause bad running.

The alarm has been disconnected, but still the car wont run properly. I cant even get out of first gear. I checked the earth and its okay.

    Question.
Is the EWS MK2 alarm connected to the ingintion system or engine management, or is it a standalone system.

EWS is just an imobiliser and interfaces with the engine ECU.

The alarm (siren) is a seperate system, somewhat separate from the engine electronics.

Get a check on the battery and alternator. Failing that you have some other fault on the engine which is causing poor running.

Split hose is causing the bad running. The alarm going off was a coincidence.

    Cheers.

(still wanting to disconnect the alarm, but leave the central locking on)

3G Mk2 is fully integrated to EWS and the CL system, as well as its own attack monitoring. You could snip the connections to the EWS module but no guarantee that the system wouldn't go into attack mode. Best bet if you want CL only is to strip out alalrm and fit something like the RClick system.

Why do you want to disconnect the alarm?
Does your remote locking work correctly, as the two are interconnected

I changed the main car battery last year and since the alarm has reverted to the default setting of "always on". You cannot disarm it.
