    Hi all,
I got a couple of electrical faults in my e46, or so I think..

First off, the ASC button is not working, I press it and the ASC light stays off on the dash.

No headlight warning buzzer - when I open my door with the lights on and keys in, there is no warning sound.

No handbrake light - there is no handbrake light when handbrake is on allthough when I apply it when driving it get the warning sounds.

The left button on the clocks is not working either.. so I can't do any tests..

Do all of these problems seem related to the clocks on the car.?

    Please help guys...!

    Few more tests for you.

Do the door open lights light up on the cluster?
Do the radio controls work on the steering wheel?

    Regards
    Colin

Yes, all the doors, boot and bonnet light up in the car diagram. And all the controls on the steering wheel work. Including cruise control.

What is your thinking on this Colin?

    Cheers

Ok, getting somewhere now.! I took the clocks out and found the button push pins had broken inside... so I did the cluster test by manually pushing the little buttons inside, and low and behold all the lights work except the HANDBRAKE and ASC lights.. so it looks like the LED bulbs are bad and not the car itself..

    What you guys think?

This is what the circuit board on the clocks looks like.. is it me or do they look like they are missing some LEDS?

This is the bottom left of the board, the top right hole is the handbrake. Is it missing an LED

This picture is the ASC light, is this missing too? I can't tell..

I'm getting worried now, why would someone take the handbrake, ABS and ASC LEDs out?? To hide a problem?

Try replacing them.If both of them are on then I suspect a possible wheel speed sensor problem. You should probably get the codes read to see if you have any faults stored on the ECU

    Ok,
I just plugged in the clocks whilst they were apart. Holding an blue LED I have I made contact with all of the of the missing LEDS spaces.. all of them were constantly on.. so that's ASC, ABS and Handbrake.. all constantly on.!

Why on gods earth would someone instead of properly fixing a problem, decide its best to just take out the offending LEDS and then just forget about it..? What the hell is wrong with some people??!!

I've just taken it out for a spin and hit the brakes real hard, the rear wheels are locking up.. so I take it either the ASC is constantly off or it has no ABS... or both.

I think normally people have strange behaviours with their speedos, fuel guage, cruise control ect when the abs speed sensors are going bad. All of these things are working fine on my car.. any ideas?

Ok guys, finally bought myself an OBD cable and a copy of BMW INPA. Scanned it and this showed up in the DSC module. So I need to replace 2 ABS sensors and have a look at the wiring harness on the ABS module.

I've seen people mention ABS sensors being blue or grey? Can anyone elaborate on this?

Ok I got the offending ABS sensors out today, I had to drill them both out as they were totally seized.. horrible job. But it's done.!

I just need to look at the error "113 pump unit, valves, wiring harness"

    What could that be?

    Hi there,

I can't give you any advice on this unfortunately but I have the same problem with the handbrake and DSC warning lights not illuminating, even during a binnacle test. I've just bought the car so it's possible that the previous owner has done something similar to hide a problem. I'll be following this thread with interest...
