Im going to give you the whole story just in case I overlooked something along the way. I purchased this car a couple of months ago because it was fairly cheap and needed some work, and although Im not a new to auto mechanics, I am new to BMWs. One of the things wrong with the car was that the power cable running to the fan had a break in it somewhere so it wasnt supplying power to the fan causing the car to run hot. I replaced that wire which also runs the blower for the cabin, so now the fan works. I also replaced most of the interior parts, including the dash. No wires were cut or replaced in this process. On the initial drive home from purchasing the car, I remember it displaying the outside temp on the dash(never tried to change it, also never tried to use cruise control). But since I had to disconnect the battery to fix some things, the dash was reset to the clock, where it is now stuck. I took it to a local inde shop(who specializes in porsche, BMW, ect) who hooked his scanner to the car and said he could talk to and change the instrument and reset the oil interval and such but couldnt figure out why the OBC button and cruise didnt work. Ive taken the steering wheel back off and cleaned all of the connections along with the connections behind the cluster. As it sits now the cluster is stuck on the clock(which I can set) and the cruise control will not come on, the cruise control light wont even flash on when the car is started. I have read on here that the cluster may need recoding but will that solve my problems? Thanks.
This is my first post so if this is the wrong area to post let me know and Ill repost in the correct thread.

Yup. I recently bought a Scan/write tool and reset the instrument cluster and that fixed anything except for the cruise control. Ive still been reading around and it seems like everyone that has a problem like this, their cc light will come on but the will turn back off or not hold at a certain speed. The light on mine will not turn on or hold a speed.

Yes. So I was playing around with it the other day and it just started working again. I went back and talked with the mechanic that had looked at it and he had no clue why that would happen. Gremlins I guess. Everything is working like it should but I do have one more problem. Im loosing water somewhere, I dont see it dripping anywhere under the car but I also dont think its a blown head gasket because theres no white smoke, oil looks fine and the car runs perfect. Any ideas?

Im not sure but I think there is pipework at the back of the engine near the bulkhead that can leak.
