new to forum and looking for HELP!!!!
My son recently bought an E46 1999 T reg 323i se saloon.
It more or less immediately developed a misfiring problem which at first my local mechanic thought was happening on one cylinder and checked the usual coil packs etc with no success.
I had an auto electrician check out the car today and he tells me that in fact cylinders 1, 2 and 3 are all misfiring intermmitently and at various times either one can be worse than the other two. He thinks it is not electrical but I'm convinced it is.
Sometimes when driving the car when not running properly if you turn a sharp corner or go round a roundabout it immediately starts running perfectly on all 6 cylinders again as if something is moving ie maybe a bad conection or something but at any point can start to run like a dog again.
Seems to be something linked to cylinders 1, 2 and 3 as 4, 5 and 6 are perfect. New spark plugs fitted today too!!
Sparky thinks it may be the manifold as there is a seperate one for the first 3 cylinders from the 2nd 3 cylinders but I think if that were the case then the fault would be there permanently and not intermitent.
Anyone had this problem or any ideas or does anyone know if there is possibly a module, sensor etc that controls the first 3 cylinders separate from the other three.
I've had loads of 6 cylinder e36 and e46 models over the years but never experienced anything like this. My son's first BMW and as you can imagine totally depressed with it so far
