I could understand the tacho bouncing around if the engine was running with a faulty sensor, but for my speedo and light adjusters to go mental when the ignition is only on and without the engine running is a bit wierd is it not?
Got me confused that's for sure

    Update:

I checked all earths yesterday, and all look good. Set off on the school run this morning, 1/4 mile up the road, cut out. It restarted ok, got round the corner, died, clocks did the silly dance so I waited for this to stop, restarted and set off firing on 3 max, which cleared and made it back home in one piece.

I am looking into getting the INPA setup to do a diagnostics, any recommendations?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Update, again

I have finally managed to get INPA working on my Vista Laptop using a VagCom lead....

Right then, there were a few faults in there which I cleared before taking her round the block (as so to speak)

Just before I returned she died, bless her.

    Fault 1 - 135 'Signal Camshaft Sensor', x3

    Fault 2 - 115 'control grid-controlled cooling', x1

    Fault 3 - 136 'Signal Crankshaft Sensor' x 3

    Fault 4 - 124 'Battery Voltage Main Relay' x1

I reset these faults again and left her idleing for a bit, occasionally blipping the throttle. During this time the 'Signal Camshaft Sensor' came up another 3 times.

I'm fairly happy that this sensor is on the blink, but can anyone advise as to the other errors please as I don't know if they are related or not.

Thank you all again for your help so far

Having checked the cam sensor connections and the car still playing up, I disconnected the sensor altogether and the car has run fine since. The only fault code I get is for the sensor but I would expect that as it isn't getting a signal from it.

Will I be damaging anything by running it like this?

No mate, that is exactly what I did. Obviously you will need to get a cam sensor in at some point soon. But as I said before, just unplugged mine and everything was fine.

God it takes me back to being scared to start the car when I finished work incase it wouldn't work!lol
If it aint broke, don't fix it!!!
