Hi everyone. Im delighted to have recently acquired an E46 and im very excited about joining this forum and contributing where i can. I have already fallen in love with my car.

My E46 has covered 120k and runs pretty smooth. The electrics however are abit crazy. I dont know if they are all linked together to a common problem or they are several separate issues.

Issue No 1 (the main issue): ABS, ASC, hand brake lights stay on. Occassionally they go off, but not so much nowadays. When this happens, the speedo occassionally dies as well and is very intermittent. I suspect a wheel speed sensor?

Issue No 2: Sometimes when i turn the car on, the dash warning light comes up telling me my tail lights (both of them) are not working. The stereo, lights and horn at this point totally stop working. Almost like a short. I look at the tail lights and i see the brake lights stay always on. It goes away after a little while, but i usually switch the car off and on again until it goes away.
I have no idea what the issue could be, ive seen in other forums people who replaced the ignition switch.

Issue No 3: Oil level light comes on when i start the car. Dissappears everytime after about 20 seconds.

Issue No 4: Airbag light stays on. Could be anything.

Issue No 5: NOT ELECTRICAL - Or so i hope, there is a mild rattle when i start the car cold, and also in low revs only on first and second there is like a rattle/squeeky sound. Its very annoying and i do not know what it is.

I would really appreciate any help i can get and advice from all you experienced folk. Thanks in advance

Number 1...could be a wheel sensor or the steering angle sensor...code read will tell you

Number 3.. is the sensor fault, very common...just make sure the oil level is correct and get the sensor changed at the next oil service

Only ones i can help you with i'm afraid

1 is more than likely your NSR wheel speed sensor mate.
2 is likely to be an ignition switch, when they go you get strange electrical probs
3 is (assuming you have checked the level is ok manually) the oil level sensor. very common failure
4 is probably the wiring under the seat mate
    5 is no idea
