I have recently rejoined the ranks of owning a BMW and bought a 520i touring auto, its run well and i love it untill the ABS/ASC lights came on in conjuction with the gearbox light(switched into limp mode) and speedo stopped, the problem was intermitent but now is permanent.Have a friend who plugged in diagnostics but cant read any control units other than engine when fault is present. Have read various forums which seem to have various thoughts, I'm missing using my beamer ! hellllpppppp have heard it could be abs control module? look forward to responses also anyone breaking suitable car for bits?

    thanks all

That should be one of the rear ABS sensors.
It will stop the ABS and DSC as a matter of course, kill the speedo, as the speed signal is derived from one rear wheel, and also upset the gearbox as it's not quite sure if it is doing anything.

And famously, I always forget which ABS sensor...

If all of your symptoms match, it is likely to be this particular ABS sensor, if you only have a few, then it is probably best to get it scanned before buying anything.
