    Hello,

My Father has been attempting to remove the starter motor now for 3 days ( I begrudge paying a mechanic £300+) Anyway he has removed the two thread bolts yet the damn thing won't budge, he is reluctant to remove the manifold if he can help it! So far he has removed the battery, battery tray, the heater control valve and hoses.

I have looked at a similiar thread already posted however it unfortunately hasn't helped, it's tight up against the gearbox apparently.

Any pointers would be much appreciated...... as he is getting rather frustrated and I'm as useful as a chocolate fire guard!!

    Thanks Kerry

Has he taken all the bolts out
If all the bolts are out they can be a bugger because they corrode into the gearbox bell housing. I had to use a long brass chisel and a lot of care to remove the one on my 318.

£300+ to remove the starter? I've just been quoted £290 for supply and fitting of a new starter motor AND clutch!!

    Shop around!

The starter motors get stuck on the dowel, number 5 here http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...34&hg=23&fg=15.

You need to use a pry bar to persuade them out.

If the starter is to be thrown then batter it out with a hammer and pry bar.
