    Hi all.
Just got my first beemer and loving it. Its a 1998 2 door 320i SE. Got a strange fault i want to fix. The front windows only operate with the doors open ??

I have located the box of electronics that controls the windows, Behind the Glove Box, (left hand drive car). all seems ok there and the windows work fine up and down with the doors open. Also when you open a door the window jogs about 1cm as it should and raises again when the door is closed. However when the doors are shut the window switches do nothing not even a click from a relay ignition on or off. I also noticed my vanity mirror lights have stopped working and the interior light stays on for a long time when the door is closed

I am sure its all related but jusr cannot figure it out. if any of you guys can help i would really appreciate it

    Many thanks in advance

    chris

    Wow, that is weird!?

Sorry i can't be of much help, not a clue myself! But i'm sure someone more knowledgable will be in here soon!

I know mine, and all my previous BMW's had something that bugs me, how if you pull the key out, the windows still work, until a door is opened. The Mrs used to always open the door while my window was going up and i'd have to put the keys back in.

Although now I'm a parnoid turbo diesel driver the engine stays on for cool down long enough after i stop to get windows up and stuff.

Sorry that's a bit off topic - just thinking about window quirks.

    good luck sorting your issue!

Thinking logically I'd be looking for a trapped wire shorting out when the door is shut.
Have you inspected the wiring as it enters the door from the car body?

actually scrub that as its affecting both windows !
