    hi guys just had the head gaskets done on my motor after a faulty thermostat overheated the engine now when i get in car and drive from cold after about two minutes driving temp gauge shhots into red then after about five minutes settles back to normal twelve oclock posistion any ideas of a remedy or a reason why this is happening

    I would look at the plug connection first, or maybe a new temp sender, and also check to make sure the heater is working, and the coolant level is staying the same incase there is an airlock or circulation problem.

    heater would put you out plus changed temp sender would a non oem thermostat cause this

    Maybe, but It wouldn't have been my first guess.
    Any airlocks would have cleared by now I would have thought, but I guess if the thermostat is stiff of jamming, if might make the car overheat first to kick it into life.

    just thought i would let all know went to bmw specialist who worked at bavarian years ago Harry Brown and he said he wouldnt look at it untill i had oem therostat fitted and low an behold when i took out euro car parts thermostat it was jammed open about 3 to 4mm so obviously had a duff electrical over ride wax chamber fitted new oem thermostat which was only 5 to 10 quid dearer than euro carparts temp gauge acting normal now.
