    Hiya Everyone,

Today i changed my rear speakers in my e39 523i se from the standard speakers to aftermarket alpine speakers, but after taking apart half of the car to get to them and fit the new alpine speakers, the rear speakers fail to work,

More detail - the rear right speaker worked for a short while but cut out and the rear left nothing!, if i turn the car off and back on the right rear would work again and cut out again but after two or three time the speakers refuses to work on bot rear sides,

I have the bmw x5 headunit with the screen fitted and the original speakers int he rear seemed to work ok but the new one's dont, could any one help please??

does sound like the one that works in parts is shorting out and could be in some way shorting out the other speaker, it maybe be that the cable has snagged on the metal ?, were all the + & - in corect order?, i would pull them out and try playing them in free air and if ok, install while playing them, that way you may find the problem when moving them in postion, also check all connections in the rear of the headunit and also the amp in the boot if you have one mate, sorry cant be off more help, good luck

The rear speakers are totally dead now as fair as i can tell :s

ive fitted in right order, the only thing i was thinking i could try would be take out the head unit and try the original head unit, atleast that way i could see if the problem is in the headunit, & i dont have a amp in me boot.

Well worth a try as it could be the headunit fault, good luck and let us know how you get on mate
