I have a BMW E38 728i. I have recentley begun to experience some rather disturbing electrical issues. Sometimes when I turn on the ignition and start the engine, the cental computer monitor, audio system and horn do not work. Also the passenger door mirror does not adjust to look at the curb to aid curbside parking. In addition, the interior lights activate at night when the lights are on and I depress the footbrake. When the interior lights are switched off, they keep coming back on again.
I suspect a possible earth problem in the steering column or the ignition key barrel is faulty. Any ideas, or similar experiences that were resolved.

I would check the wiring loom going into the bootlid.Over time they become brittle and break and can cause all sorts of electrical havoc
