MY 1998 e36 m3 evo convertible, like an idiot i opened my boot while putting my roof down, this then caught with the bit that flips back as a result when putting the roof down will only go 90percent of the way.

    could it be a fuse?
or do you think i have done some real damage?

I'm to scared to take it too BMW last time i went there they proper ripped me off.
any help or ideas would be much appreciated

    Thanks Dave

I take it you mean the motor, visions of a cement mixer stuck on your roof there!
sounds like you have bent something, no doubt somebody in the know will have a diagnosis and pop in soon, take it you tried re-opening and closing it. id guess that if it goes 90% of the way it aint your motor and something is stopping it. worth examing the structure of roof with it slightly open to see if something has been bent.

Haven'T checked the fuses yet,i will have a look.Am i right in thinking there are two motors for the roof, surely there must be otherwise it wouldn't work at all. If it is the motor any ideas how much to buy?

theres 2 motors one situated in the left of the boot, and one directly under the back side of the boot, they are not cheap!!! I paid i think about 200 for a used one for the last one i fitted

also have you tried pulling the fail safe lever under the rear seat to see if she still folds down ok with motors disengaged?

    Regards

    Rob
