Abs and asc lights on dash illuminated; chkd fuses seem ok changed abs relay for new unit no difference, tested relays and ok for operation and ok; a bit stuck ! I then took the lids off of the fuses and neither operate when ign switched on and engine running; if i operate the abs relay by hand nothing changes;if i operate the asc relay by hand the pump abs unit whirrs merrily;after loking on the net auto mechanic 101 says that with the relays removed there should be power on two of the relay pins no matter what, this is not he case here, it says to check the fuses ; any ideas what to try next?

I'd check the fault codes, i think you might have dived in too deep.

If, for example, a wheel sensor is out, the ABS ecu would most likely shut off the rest of the system.

The fault code indicates loss of power to abs pump.

    Ah, OK.
Did you find some wiring diagrams? It could be a problem with the ABS ecu which is up by the glovebox.

I would have a look at the ABS ecu, and check power to it.
The ECU is the one that will send out the signals to the relays to activate.
Grab the numbers from the case too whilst you are checking it over incase you want to try a replacement ABS ecu.

Mmm i had a nightmare with my 323i specialist tilde the abs pump was at fault when i had both lights on. I changed it which took ages then no joy. Came up wot wheel speed sensor fault and asc actuator and unknown code that was with snap on modus. Took to specialst again then could not get access to abs fault memory spent hours and hours in the end it was abs ecu and ended up costing me £350 fr parts and labour and new abs sensor but if ya can read memory that should rule it out. Just thought I'd mention it.
