hi i just got a 1998 bmw 318 ti compact with a 2.8 engine and gearbox fitted been done well but their no oil light on the clock when you turn the car on they oil in the engine the the service are working and the mpg not working can any one tell me where to look thanks wayne
might be worth getting the codes read for the mpg gauge. have you done the clocks test when holding down the odometer button then turning the key see if it moves?
take it to a bmw specialist or find someone on the fourms to enter the instrument module to find faults. If they whip out one of these portable snap-on OBDII red things its not going to be detailed enough.
you might get away with the cheaper one without the 20pin adapter as its a '98 if it has the socket above the pedals.
you would need to do the research if you will be able to connect to the modules you want with this cable. as some of the modules are BMW own ADS system not OBDII but it thing by '98 it had changed over fully.
It might be cheaper to take it to the experts though.
