hi everyone, i have spent about 6hours working on my girlfriends 318is trying to sort the passenger window out, and i have given up!!! i have fixed every other part on a car before many times but this is proving to be a nightmare....

the window never opened when she bought the car, which i thought won't be a problem.

basically i can hear something clicking when i press the button but the window never moves.

i have now fitted a brand new window regulator and that made it work for a few miniutes but now its stuck shut, ive now swaped the window switchs round and thats made no difference. when i put test leads on the motor wires it flashes 12v up for a second then goes.

its also stoped moving up as the door shuts.

    any ideas?

    cheers

    hello mate
sounds to me like the window is jaming, try hitting the cogged wheel up and try the window again, as doing this will more the window down a bit and free it up, when the window jams does it make any noise?

    Cheers Rjb

i had a load of problems with the window on my vert (same as the coupé) drivers side. all i did was loosen off all the bolts in the regulator (metal scissor like thing) so it wiggled about then tried the motor again - it worked, tightened everything back up and it stayed working for a while.
I played this game for several days (with it jamming up several times) then i used some silicone spray (just what i had lying around) and coated everything on the mechanism. put it all the way up (i wedged the door switch) then tightened everything back up.

I've not had an issues since! (touch wood)!

no. it just didn't do anything. if you listened really hard you could here a clicking of a relay in the car, but nothing from the window. i used a multi meter to make sure it was getting power first though.

I was really pulling my hair out when i undid the whole thing and managed to get the window to lower. then i couldn't put it back up! in the end i attached the plug to the motor back to front to raise the window again (system thought it was lowering), the for whatever reason it just started working again.

actually come to think about it there is louder noise in the last inch before i loosened everything off. when i was messing with it with the door card removed the window goes up fine then the last fraction of an inch you can see the regulator mechanism flexing slightly as the motor tries to move the window.

Have to say i've just left it and its been fine for over a month now.

<sorry that was a bit rambling and long>
