Hi all, I am hoping someone out there can help solve this problem. I bought my e36 2 weeks ago and was thrilled when DH gave me a keyless entry kit. The car has central locking via the key so the aim is to convert it to keyless (fob).

Had the kit wired in by an electronic friend but we have come across a stumbling block. When the fob is pressed it operates the hazard lights and directional light..all ok there. However it will not open or lock the doors!

Behind the glove compartment, the loom which deals with the central locking is purple (not yellow) in colour. We connected the wires from the unit to pins number 4 and 17. No joy. It appears that a previous alarm was fitted to the car as pin 17 seems to have a purple wire coming from it which is further attached to an orange and black wire. There is no alarm module so this is now inactive.

We have tried by passing the block and connecting the wires directly to the colours which are located at 4 and 17 still no joy

    Please can anyone help?
    many thanks

This is plug X13253 and the colour changed in 1996 from yellow to purple. On my 1998 325 TDS the BMW 3G EWS Alarm remote system connects to pin 4 (blue/red/yellow) and pin 17 (white/red/yellow or green/white). Are these the same colour wires in your car? Have you checked the fuses?

Hi there yes this is the same colours as my car, the plug is purple and we wired the remote system to pins 4 and 17 and all we get is a clicking sound to say it is trying to do something and nothing happends. Didnt think it would be the fuses as the central locking itself seems to work via the key or push pin from inside the car. Will put that on my list. Many thanks

ETA pin 17 seems to have a purple wire attached to it from an alarm i believe. The purple wire is directly pushed into the loom, the white stroke red wire is situated in pin 13 and attached to the wire in pin 17 if that makes sense, i am wondering if this could be the problem as i have no alarm module for the car

pin 13 and 17 are both powered at the same time to deadlock the car. Check to see if theres diodes in that wire, or just splice into them and try it. Thats how I wired my alarm unit up.

Another thing it could be is that your door actuators are shot (like my drivers side was) PITA to fit!

When you use the key in the drivers or passenger door does the central locking work on all doors, the boot and the fuel filler flap? If it does then there is nothing wrong with the actuators.

The doors and boot all work when the key is used to lock the doors. Will add trying to connect pin 13 with pin 17 together with the unit and see if that makes it work. Just dont get why everything else works and not the locking. Cant help wondering if it has something to do with the purple wire being directly pushed into the pin 17 slot. Confused!

@ ShamM3 when you mentioned splicing into the wires did you mean splicing 13 and 17 and connecting the wire from the keyless unit with the two?
    many thanks
