Hi Pi3142 - this is also the position I am in. Purchased a car from someone who went on holidays for a week. When I collected the car he re-connected the battery and now the ABS and ASC has been on since (2 months driving with no issue). I have had fault codes read but still no luck to rectify as yet

ive just read in another forum that it can be resolved by either disconnecting the neg lead for 10 mins...also driving the car for a few miles (brake sensor light) i just thought the triangle light was the engine management light and didnt want to risk it........ive just spent 10 mins trying to download a free z3 manual but it just takes you to survey after survey to get it so i gave up

You will need to get the fault codes read first, if it is something simple like a wheel has got spun with the ignition on and the other three were stationary then YES the light would go out itself once the car was driven, the fact it has remained on means there is a problem, your car will fail the MOT also with the light on, and your ABS/Traction control will not work, which isn't that dangerous providing you are sensible, there are plenty of cars out there without ABS after all.

So, get the fault codes read at a BMW independent specialists and then report back with the fault code number.
