Hi. I have a 1998 323i SE. Owned it since August, 67k, full service history. In my opinion a nice, straight, well looked after motor.

Recently, when accelerating hard in 1st gear, the ASC light comes on and won't go off, until you turn engine off and start her up again.

    Any help would be appreciated.

I have stopped accelerating hard in first and leaving it until 2nd gear and its fine.

But never the less I wanna get to the bottom of it.

    Can anybody help?

    Thanks in advance

There is a second throttle flap controlled by the ASC system to limit the power, This could be sticking, else it is a wheel sensor.

Engine mounts are getting tired !

When you boot it, your engine is able to move enough for the ASC throttle body position sensor to hit the bonnet lining !
If you look at the lining, you'll see where it's been catching it !

Thanks guys. I think its likely engine mounts. You know how much this is likely to cost ballpark? I will take it to a mechanic when i have the funds and time.

    Cheers

Genuine are around £50 each. GSF & ECP both do them a bit cheaper but I wouldn't expect much change from £70 for the pair. If the engine mounts are gone then the gearbox mounts might need looking at too.
