My 1997 Z3 2.8 is rarely used - just 8,000 miles since I bought it new almost 14 years ago.
I've recently recharged the battery and started it for the first time in about 8 months.
The 3G alarm is now permanently armed and neither of the key fobs will turn it off or operate the central locking, although the central locking still works off the key. I've fitted new batteries to both key fobs (the two button type with the cut off corner), but it seems that the control module no longer recognises them. Luckiy I still have the little key to turn off the siren but the alarm still operates the flashers.
I've studied the Billywhiz post about reprogramming the key fobs, and I've found the control module behind the glove box.
The problem is that I can't reprogram the key fobs while the alarm is activated. I've tried removing the receiver part of the module and shorting out the pins, but it hasn't worked -the alarm is still activated. My understanding is that the reprogamming procedure won't work unless the alarm is disarmed, so I'm stuck.
Can anybody help?
