Last couple of days iv noticed a strange problem when opening my door to get in, with the door open the window goes up and down as it does when you first open the door but it does this non stop until i close the door ,
which isnt realy a problem but it does drive me nuts when im trying to get my lil one strapped in and i can hear it going up and down up and down etc ..
Is this a sign of more bad things to come or is it something simple which can be fixed in an instant ?

I'm only guessing here but it sounds like you have a short in the wiring where it goes through the door pillar and door due to wear.

Sounds like a switch problem to me, try fiddling with the switch on the catch.

I would of thought if it was a switch prob it would still do it with the door closed.

When the switches get worn they can play up yes, causing the window to drop or the interior lights to flash, but this sounds like the switch hasn't actually got a good connection(corroded contacts).

Thanks for the replys so far. i have had a look yesterday with the door card off to check the wire (as much as i could anyway) didnt see anything amiss,
but then i drove into town and when i went to close the window it decided to almost close then open about 3 times before it eventualy shut.

Have you tried taking the switch off and driving it. if it does it you know its then the wiring, i had the same on my e46 rear window, turned out there was a short in the switch contacts, looked damp and green. file and sand paper solved it.

I know little about the mechanism in that bimmer but on my ford it was crud in the microswith actuator , replaced it because it was so dirty and work with an adjust and it was fine so perhaps the limit switches are bad ?
