what kind of sound system you going to be running ? 140amps is plenty enough for a couple of amps and you can run capacitor for more power

Your stock alternator will be fine

unless your doing someting like this

running 4x15'' sub runnig them off two 1600.1 rockford amps.....which is pushing around 800-900rms through each sub so i will need a bigger a alternator to chasrge the standard battery plus the other two batteries that are being installed rather than me lagging volts through batteries making me turn the volume down to keep voltage high

if you get what i mean

i know what you mean and even with a much larger alternator you will be putting alot of strain on it i would consider a power cap of a decent brand

Looking through real oem the 328i uses the highest amp alternator at 140amp the 325TDS uses a 95amp and the M3 uses a 115amp I didnt bother with the lower models

Powercaps are useless - fact. I've got one, bought them when they were all hyped up about 5-6 years ago @£99 and its still sitting in the box..

I'm not sure you can get a 180amp alternator but worth checking ebay or the like or PM'ing e36nickd off here as he's big into his audio and i'm sure he's uprated his alternator to a 200amp one
