    Ok, so I changed out the battery this lunchtime for one from a 325 TDS E36. That only just fit into the boot slot, and boy was the negative lead a pig to put on!!! Anyway, first, I couldn't start the car, which turned out had been flooded. That was sorted.

    Then, I wanted to test the lights cos they weren't coming on over the weekend, I presumed cos of the flat battery. However, now the following are not coming on, door open/switched on via headlight switch;

    Front AND rear sidelights, number plate lights not on
    interior lights - front centre light(even manual switch on not working), C pillar lights, front footwells,
    ALL elec window switches, full dash - climate panel, OBC, speedo pod, headlight switch NON illumination

    These are what ARE working;

    Main beam and indicators,
    interior front left and right map lights(manual switch on)

    I have checked all the fuses and they are all ok, not a single one blown.

    I havnt tried the window switches themselves yet to see if they open or close, or the sunroof. Engine was running when I tried the headlights.

    Have you checked for power(voltage) at the fuses with a test light?

    Ronnie, well, used a circuit tester on both ends of the tops of the fuses, and they all lit up the tester, didn't check for exact voltage number tho.

    Billywhizz, the link you put was just for the tail lights wires chafing, and no central locking where as my problem is both front and rear sidelights not coming on.

    I don't knowif the headight switch is dodgy, but how would that affect the interior lights tho?? Footwells and front centre and C pillar lights!?!? Unless it's the door switch, I havn't tried opening other door yet.

    Fanx anyway, will have a gander at all possibilities in the morn, IF it isn't throwing down with a vengeance!!

    The left sidelights are on their own circuit, the right side is on the same as the interior lights.

    Hmm, ok, well, will have another check of the fuses again, and pull out the grommet sheath to the bootlid, see if there's anything going on there.

    Ok, for some strange reason, I have found 2 blown fuses. 1, the interior lights/sidelights fuse, and the front foglight fuse. I changed both of these, even tho they were fine before and the interior lights all came on, the dash, f+r. BUT the front fog light was still off, and also the headlight switch itself doesn't light up.I checked for power this time at the switch and even unplugged it and tested the car end of the plug, all the socket holes 1 by 1, and NONE of them had power. I had the key turned to position 2, but no engine started. I also checked the front fog light fuse again, and again it was blown.

    I tried a 3rd fuse in it, only 5A, pressed the foglight button and it didn't even come on, and the fuse was blown again. So, the rest of the lights all work now, f+r sidelights, main beam, high beam and rear fog, but the front fog keeps blowing fuses. What can I check for now?

    Check the loom going into the bootlid like Billywhizz posted-if the wires there are chaffed then it can cause a short in the electric system which can cause a whole array of faults including problems with central locking/odd behaviour of the dash clocks/lights not working etc..etc...worth checking

    Right,have just pulled both ends of the trunking grommets out from the boot,bootlid and above the tail light, both are unscathed. Now where? Still no power at the headlight switch itself/wire for switch illumination, and front fogs have blown fuse again as soon as I push the button. All other dash lights and exterior lights come on including rear fog. Next?
