Hey guys, I just won a 2nd hand speedo pod for an E36 323 on Ebay. I want to remove the speedo and tacho and fit some other digital readout gauges.

    http://www.edgeperformance.co.uk/lis...&subcat=GAUGES

Has anyone else changed out their gauges for digital units? Unfortunately, these Drift units, the speedo only comes in 3 3/8''. The tacho comes in 3 3/8'' and 5''.

you'll have a job, as they are on a PCB.

you could make up an entirely new panel, you'd want fuel and temp too.

you'd also need to retain the odometer for it to be legal.

One thing you can do is junk the mpg gauge, i've seen people fit little lcds in there before

Yeah, the Drift speedo has an odometer reading display built in, but doesn't have the trip meter tho, which is unimportant anyway. Thing is tho, cos the Drift speedo is only 3 3/8'', it's gna look REALLY small, probably lost in there. The speedo pod I won only cost me £20 posted, so if the internals dont work, it's no biggy. It's the main casing thats important.

I couldn't find a video of ths speedo, but this one shows oil pressure, battery, and water temp I think. When you start the car up, the speedo and tacho will cycle through same as these do. Do you think the flickering/changing of the numbers would be a distraction during driving compared to an analogue reading with needles?

they're about 70 years old, and still work, although the paint may be a little radioactive.

that's a good idea if you can get one

That one above is a Stack system, not cheap new, but a proper bit of kit. Apparently has an odometer aswell. This Race Tech and this ETB one have odometers too.
If could get a s/hand one cheap u'd have a project!

The Stacks do hold their money well. The elise had a stack dash too, but not the triangular usual type
