I have aquired a annoying fault with my dash lights. started the other day as i was driving home in the dark... suddenly all my dash lights turned off. Everything else worked fine inc gauges. After about 5 mins they flicked on and back off. I have since discovered if i flick the lights on and off a few time the dash lights will come on.

    Any ideas?

You sure you're not messing with the brightness settings?

    Worth a try!

To be a bit more helpful, maybe the wires behind the cluster going to the lights are corroding/faulty?

Might be worth taking them out to have a look.

Just had another look and noticed when you turn the lights on and the dash lights work there is a slight noise behind the switch... abit like a motor. when you turn the lights on and the dash lights DONT work there is no noise. so i guess there is some sort of module behind the switch that could be faulty?

No module behind the switch. This is probably a bad earth or a worn light switch. Try lifting the passeneger footwell carpet and check for moisture as a lot of the lighting circuits connect here.

My first point of investigation would be the switch that is used to make the dash lights bright or dim. If this is not plugged in then you will not have ANY dash illumination.

I know this because I forgot to plug mine in the other day

I realised my mistake quickly enough Plugged staright back in and problem solved

First I would check that the plug has been pushed right the way in so that the clips have secured it in position.

Let us know how you get on

Also, if you've had anything apart then let us know as it may lead us to an immediate fix
