Hello thanks, no it was not those threads but i will have a good read later.......no other electrical problems.....The book works ok as does its lights etc.........I had to release the tonneau lock wires from the motor as well to release the tonneau cover and then carried out the reset sequence and it reset adn worked fine but after i used it again it got stuck and the tonneau wont open again....i think all the motors are fine as they work ok but maybe something to do with the latch/locks on the tonneau maybe???

Check the fuse in the boot that goes straight to the battery the actual fuse maybe ok but the fuse holder corodes, this doesn't let enough power and ampage to the hood ecu and then stores a code something like 'motor to ground'. I have had this problem with many e36's.

follow up from my last message, had a thorough play with the roof today, and YAY !! ( well not so much Yay!) managed to get something . more than i had before...so anyways it turned out that the fuse by battery was totally corroded, changed it, added some WD40, checked all other fuses...all OK... then attemped to try and sync, uh uh ... no ways only movement i got was the storage cover moved up alittle and then down and locked, windows played up with a jerky movement...anyways eventualy kept trying to sync, we manually closed the roof and tried in reverse order, yes movement from first stage of opening and continued to the full storage point...and hey presto we had some life... tried and tested a few time, then started to tidy up, left the roof open, when it cam to closing the roof again, it was fine, closed perfectly ...then tried to open again ...and yes you guessed right.... the roof stuck half way.
closes fine but opens only half way...so any results for this please get in touch.

Are you trying the roof with the engine running the whole time?
