I drive a remapped e36 tds, high miles but goes like a bat out of hell over 2k revs.

    I have a 1996 e 36 tds donor for my `special` I am building. with a standard tune ecu.

If I swap the 2 ecu`s, will they still work in different cars or cause damage if it doesnt work ? (and is the ecu coded to the ignition key and pump ?)

The key is coded to the EWS box behind the glovebox, and ECU, not the pump !

You can swap ECU's, but you'll need to swap the correct EWS module over, and the correct chip inside the key !

many thanks - will probably tape the key and ignition collar to the ews module, and reinstall in the special along with the ecu then. See if all goes well. That will also save the investment in the remap. greatly relieved that the pump is not coded - its done 230K so not wroth the effort opf transplanting.
